Radboud University Nijmegen needed a Full Professor of Theory of Molecules and Materials
The theory research programme of the Institute for Molecules and Materials is based on three themes. This multiplicity of expertises will foster the scientific impact and visibility of the ”theory of molecules and materials” programme that IMM strives for, and is reflected in the following brief descriptions: • Theoretical Chemistry: Electronic structure theory and quantum dynamics of molecules. • Electronic Structure of Materials: Physics of (complex) materials, on the basis of first-principles computational methods. • Condensed Matter Theory: Many-body physics, nonlinear dynamics and statistical physics, including phenomenology, quantum and classical molecular dynamics. The IMM announces an opening for a full professorship in the Theory of Molecules and Materials within the framework of the first two themes. Besides meeting the above mentioned requirements, the successful candidate must enthusiastically adopt a leading role in the development and teaching of a modern and inspiring teaching programme as conducted in the educational institutes MW (Molecular Sciences; the educational institute the candidate will be primarily assigned to) and WiNSt (Mathematics, Physics, and Astronomy).
Requirements
Doctorate
The successful candidate shows an exceptional potential to conduct theoretical research at the interface of chemistry and physics. We are seeking an energetic and interactive colleague who initiates novel research within the theory cluster of the IMM and is capable of developing and strengthening collaboration within the institute. The person we are looking for has a proven record in acquiring external funding for research and is willing to participate in multidisciplinary projects. In addition, the candidate is expected to be an inspiring lecturer with excellent teaching skills. Finally, we are searching for a communicative co-worker who is willing to represent the institute in national and international research organizations and will contribute to its administrative and organizational tasks. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or physics or related discipline.
Organization
Radboud University Nijmegen Faculty of Science
Strategically located in Europe, Radboud University Nijmegen is one of the leading academic communities in the Netherlands. A place with a personal touch, where top-flight education and research take place on a beautiful green campus in modern buildings with state-of-art facilities.
The Institute for Molecules and Materials works at the forefront of the design and synthesis of functional molecular structures and materials. The institute has an excellent track record, fostering an international collaborative atmosphere where scientists with backgrounds in (bio)chemistry, physics, and materials science work together to understand and control complexity in order to design new functionalities in various systems. The institute has excellent synthetic capabilities and a unique spectroscopy infrastructure matching its ambitions to take a prominent position in the international research community. See also www.ru.nl/imm/research_groups/research_groups. The theory of molecules and materials programme of the Institute for Molecules and Materials covers a multiplicity of expertise including: • Theoretical Chemistry: Quantum dynamics and properties of molecules. • Electronic Structure of Materials: Physics of (complex) materials, on the basis of first-principles computational methods. • Condensed Matter Theory: Many-body physics, nonlinear dynamics and statistical physics, including phenomenology, quantum and classical molecular dynamics. Currently the IMM theory cluster consists of two chairs in Condensed Matter Theory and one chair in Electronic Structure of Materials. The current opening constitutes the fourth chair in this cluster with a preferred focus on molecular systems.
